Abstract | Everyone’s talking about data. They say it’s the "new oil". This seems to mean it’s what makes everything work these days and if you don’t use it well your business will be less efficient and less competitive than your rivals. But how true is that? Like many popular phenomena, the terms bandied around are rarely actually defined. It’s taken for granted that we know what they mean. But do we? What really is "big data"? Does the Internet of Things really exist, and if so what does it mean to me? What are "cloud solutions" and why should I care? And must we really all be "data driven"?! In this talk, Peter Chase will use the language of business to demystify these terms, and help explain the link between new data technologies and how businesses operate. Using examples of how data solutions are helping his clients at Datalytyx, Peter will suggest practical steps a business can take to explore and exploit technology to offer better customer service, reduce costs and stay ahead of the game. | ||||||||
