Abstract

Continuing the programme of highly successful events held at Bedford College, there will be another joint British Computer Society (BCS) and Bedford College free evening lecture on Tuesday 27 November 2012.

"The Way The Cookies Crumble" is the topic of a talk by Karen Mason, founder and managing director of Novalex Solicitors, one of the first virtual law firms in the UK.

Privacy has been a hot topic since the Internet became publicly available. More recently cookies have been in the news with requirements being imposed at a European level. The Information Commissioner’s Office here in the UK took the unusual step of delaying enforcement of the relevant regulations for 12 months, allegedly to allow web site providers a period of time to put their houses in order. But what is the position now?

Are you confused by the definitions of "opt out" and "opt in"? Do you love or hate pop up boxes warning you about cookies on web sites? Are you interested in privacy as a basic human right?

If you run a website, what are your obligations? If you use a web designer, what do you need them to do to make sure your web site is legal?

This seminar will cover all these issues and more. Please come along and learn and share your views on this important topic.
