Abstract

Fifty years ago, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology were likely just concepts in someone's imagination or featured as intriguing plots in science fiction movies! Back then, mainstream computers were scarce and hypothetical, and DNA sequencing was not yet feasible. After the discovery of the Genome, the foundational mathematical principles of these two disciplines began to emerge. However, researchers faced significant challenges due to the lack of computational methods, software, and computing power, which hindered meaningful progress. Let’s explore how these fields shape our lives and influence our future. From gene editing to discovering cures to some of the most aggressive diseases, we will examine the impact of high-performance computing, data science, and big data analytics on the remarkable advancements in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.
