As the focus switches from big dumb IT spend to achieving strategic value from information - and the job market for conventional IT skills gets squeezed - what do organisations really need in their CIOs? And how do we ensure we're what they want? Are we looking at a new kind of Professional in IT?

Discussion kicked off by Ruth Wallsgrove and Christine Ashton of the BCS Business-IT Interface Group (BITSIG).

Christine is now Digital Business Director for BP Gas and Power, forging a successful career through bridging.

Ruth is currently running a cross-company project on the costs of managing information, for senior managers in Utilities who are more interested in managing information than hardware.

BITSIG is a specialist group for people working as the interface or interpreter between IT and business/users, whether this is on a specific project, as an internal account manager for IT or in developing general IT strategy or IT input into general business strategy. Its organisation is headquartered in Bedford.
